Samuel Wilke, a lifelong alcoholic, leaves a California rehab facility early to arrange the funeral of his father. Ten years have passed since he has been home and an estranged family which has lost all hope in his recovery awaits his return.

Upon his arrival a string of odd events and simple misunderstandings unite him with his father's best friend and the local sheriff.

As the details of his father's passing unfold and become more and more questionable, Samuel finds a local myth may help to expose the truth.

Samuel has lived most of his adult life along the dark fringes of experience, but nothing compared to what lies in wait along the borders of reality. A creature older than time that feeds on more than flesh and blood - ravaging fear, vile deeds, unspeakable desires - it hungers for the dark meat of the soul.
